Tobin hopes Hwy. 255 becomes bigger priority
A very important topic came out of the council meeting at the Resort Villiage of Tobin Lake that needs passing on to residents and businesses in the whole district. And that is Highway 255.
Residents and business owners of the Village and district are being personally contacted and asked to write a letter to the Premier, the Minister of Highways and his Deputy and our MLA asking that our road be rebuilt and given greater priority than is presently being considered.
If you haven't been on it for a while, it is an experience. Trust me. It's like trying to pick your way through a cornfield maze, reducing to speeds of 20 to 30 kms. to avoid taking the bottom out of your vehicle. Pretty soon you won't be able to get anywhere without going right through them.
Our Highway Men have been doing some of the chuck holes but they have to wait, I would imagine, before tackling the crumbling across the highway. It's all more than bad, but I would imagine the worst long stretch is along the community pasture to, what I refer to as, the big curve.
I really wish our Premier, the Highways Minister, his Deputy and our MLA had this road to travel each day to go to work. Me thinks things would change.
The highway is heavily used; school buses, service trucks, freight trucks, folks going to work every day, local residents having to go to town to do business, get groceries and the mail, not to mention the thousands who come here winter and summer for our recreation and evenings out, many with massive and expensive R.V. equipment.
And what about the ambulance? It's hard enough getting patients to hospital safely and in the shortest time possible without the trip turning into an obstacle course.
